Thermal Recovery: end-of-life tyres into fuel, materials and credits.

Through our partnership with ACE Thermal Recovery, advanced pyrolysis turns one of Australia's most persistent waste streams into marketable commodities — with pathways to carbon credits and hydrogen.

~56M

end-of-life tyres (equivalent passenger units) generated in Australia each year — most stockpiled, landfilled or exported.

The technology

Pyrolysis: four output streams from one waste.

Shredded tyre rubber is thermally decomposed in the absence of oxygen at around 400–700°C, breaking it down into recoverable products instead of burning or burying it.

TPO

Tyre pyrolysis oil

A liquid fuel comparable to heavy fuel oil — for industrial boilers, blending or further refining.

rCB

Recovered carbon black

An industrial material for rubber goods, plastics and coatings, replacing fossil-derived virgin carbon black.

Syngas

Synthetic gas

A hydrogen-rich gas used for on-site process energy, and a future hydrogen production feedstock.

Steel

Steel wire

Recovered reinforcement wire, fully recyclable as scrap steel.

Revenue streams

A multi-stream business, built for resilience.

Fuel oil sales
Primary stream — sold to industrial fuel buyers and refiners.
Carbon black sales
A cost-competitive, lower-emission alternative for rubber and plastics manufacturers.
Gate fees
Charged to tyre collectors, councils and haulers for responsible processing — a reliable baseline income.
Carbon credits
Measurable GHG reductions from landfill diversion and avoided virgin carbon black, certified under recognised methodologies.
Syngas & hydrogen
Future pathway — processing syngas into hydrogen for transport and industry.

The market

A structural gap in domestic processing.

  • Domestic pyrolysis capacity sits well below the volume of tyres generated
  • Tightening landfill and export restrictions drive demand for local processors
  • Strong ESG-motivated demand for circular economy investment
  • Gate fees provide revenue from the first tonne processed

Carbon integration

Reductions GBF can certify and monetise.

  • Landfill diversion — avoiding emissions from stockpiling, dumping and open burning
  • Fuel displacement — recovered oil substituting virgin heavy fuel oil
  • Material substitution — rCB displacing fossil-derived carbon black
  • Platform integration — GBF manages the certification pathway end to end
